Ijtema Maidan will be covered by security blanket: IGP

Vishwa Ijtema Maidan will be covered by security blanket, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun said. He said that the police has the ability to face any kind of challenge. He said this while briefing reporters at the Ahsan Ullah Master Stadium after inspecting the overall security system at the police control room at Tongir Biswa Ijtema on Wednesday morning.

The IGP said that around 15,000 policemen will be there for the security of Ijtemasthal. Besides, there will be bomb disposal units, SWAT teams, dog squads, explosives trained teams, crime scene vans, anti-theft, robbery and pickpocketing teams, naval patrols and helicopter patrols. Special security arrangements have been made at railway stations.

He said that there will be sufficient number of CCTVs, IP cameras with night vision, video cameras at the entry and exit routes and strategic points of Ijtema Maidan. The entire Ijtema Maidan has been secured by setting up a watch tower.

The police chief said that there will be archways and handheld metal detectors at the entrances of Ijtema Maidan. Special security measures have been taken during the visit and stay of VIPs at Ijtemasthal. Security arrangements have been made for the foreign guests coming to Ijtema.

In response to a question from the journalists, the IGP said that there is no specific information about terrorist attack or sabotage around Ijtema. However, we are cautious about this.

At that time, Special Branch Additional IGP Monirul Islam, GMP Commissioner Mahbub Alam, DMP, GMP and senior officers of other specialized units of police including Dhaka Range and Tabligh teachers were present.
